2024 AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominations & Award Winners are now being sought for the 2024 Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) NAIDOC Keep the Fire Burning Blak, Loud and Proud Awards Ceremony. 

NOMINATIONS SUBMISSIONS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL SUNDAY 26th of MAY 

The awards are based on nominations received from individuals across the region. They will recognise achievements from local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as broader Community members, who have made outstanding contributions to their local First Nation’s Communities across the Eastern Metropolitan Region. 

2024 AWARD CATEGORIES: 

 

  1. Elder - Must be recognised as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Elder within the EMR Indigenous Community. 

  2. Arts - Can be in any area of the arts including painting, photography, performing arts, ceramics, music etc. Nominee must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. 

  3. Community - Can be any Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who has made a valuable contribution to the EMR Indigenous Community. 

  4. Youth Award Sporting Achievement - Can be any young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in sports. The person proposed for a Youth Award is to be between the age of 18 and 25 years old at the time of submission

  5. Youth Award Educational or Employment Achievement - Can be any young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the areas of education and employment. The person proposed for a Youth Award is to be between the age of 18 and 25 years old at the time of submission

  6. Non-Indigenous Community Service Award – Can be any non-Indigenous person who has made an outstanding contribution to the EMR Indigenous Community, whether in a service provision or volunteer capacity. 

  7. Caring for Country Award - Recognises the contribution of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and Communities who care for Country within the EMR – the land, waters and all living things conserving our biodiversity and protecting our environment for future generations. This Award nomination is open to an individual residing or working within the EMR, an Aboriginal Community within the EMR, or an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander specific project delivered within the EMR. 

  8. Business Award -  For Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander businesses within the EMR. Recognises any of the following entrepreneurial spirit, Cultural preservation and Community impact. This award category celebrates the achievements and contributions of businesses owned and operated by Indigenous peoples within the Eastern Metropolitan Region
